I've been listening to myself in a few conversations concerning superheroes, and MAN! I had NO clue that I knew so much! I was going on some tangent about Spiderman until I looked up and saw the look on my boyfriends and his brother's face - God it was priceless! I mean isn't the information about venom and Gwen Stacy common knowledge? Or how many times Pheonix has reincarnated? She-Hulk! C'mon who doesn't know about her? Am I alone in this feeling of mass ignorance of others concerning comics? Everyone is missing out on these modern pieces of mythology.

Re: When did this happen?
Thu, June 21, 2007 - 5:36 PMThe front desk guy at my gym also happens to be able to draw and usually draws muscular characters. He complained he was missing some brownish-flesh colors and I suggested he draw she-hulk. You guessed it - he said," Who's that?"
I lost him at the blood transfusion and explaining that she's much less angst ridden about being big and green. He didn't really want to know.
Told another friend I liked Ms. Marvel. He said I was as strong as her. Nice complement when you consider she can lift 50 tons.
There's a lot I don't know though. I've always been bad with time lines and who dated whom for how long - Phoenix's reincarnations confuse me as well. Though I over heard a guy saying she was "found on the bottom of the ocean by Keith Richards". *Snicker* His friend just accepted the statement. I said," Excuse me, Surely you mean Reed Richards."
I'm not that into DC and even though I like Robin, I don't know how many there have been and what all their names are.
There's a transformers movie coming out and I don't know squat about them. If it was Thundercats, I'd be in much better shape. -

Fri, June 22, 2007 - 10:14 AMO boy Well I probably know too much about Transformers too and even though my boyfriend seems cheesed out by the movie I really want to go. The first movie was in the eighties and I love the theme song...I even have it on my itunes ^o^. For Cheese tastic sake try it out "The Touch". *SNARF*

Re: When did this happen?
Fri, June 22, 2007 - 10:33 AMHoly Mother I thought this tribe was defunct! Glad to know ther's some true hero/heroines contemplating the richness of the many comic universises out there. I'm fortunate to have a capoeira community with some comics heads in it. Not all are aware of how deep these stories go or how they help unlock one's imagination or potential.
Ever, when I was a growing up, Robin was my first favorite super-hero. I always liked the idea of a kid with the skills of Batman, who used his wit and intelligence and pushed his normal physical limits to superhuman levels. In the DC universe (that I've returned to after growing up on Marvel), there have been four official Robins on Earth-1 (and it does get confusing with the multi-worlds and different timelines).
Dick Grayson is the original and has been known as Nightwing for some time, though it appears he is about to go through another transformation. Jason Todd was the second, reckless Robin who was killed off by 'the fans' back in the '80's and has since returned as the Red Hood (Joker's original identity) or the rogue son of the Batman family. Tim Drake is the third and current Robin, though he took some time off and was temporarily replaced by his girlfriend, Stephanie Brown aka Spoiler, until she was killed off in the 'War Games' series and has been left hanging (like her murderer, the Black Mask) ever since. There was another female Robin, Carrie Kelly (?), who was part of Frank Miller's 'Dark Knight" series some time ago, but she is often not considered part of the legacy (Damn if the female Robins don't get there props).
I guess this is more information than many 'citizens' would care about, but I'm a freak like that. As far as DC characters go, Green Arrow is also pretty dope. I always liked the 'normal' superheroes who push themselves to excel and can handle other cats who rely on their powers. -

Re: When did this happen?
Thu, July 26, 2007 - 6:47 PMStill haven't seen "Transformers." Nor have I seen Spiderman III. guess that puts me out of the running for being current. Yet, it seems one has to make choices and I was the quietest voice. Hey Nancy Drew wasn't that bad!
When I was in Toronto there was a comic shop off of Queens E. I ended up talking to the guy for almost about an hour about Marvel vs DC. I found i ended up listening just had no idea about the history. I can't wait until you can cover this in the Ivory Towers. This is important stuff to our literature. This is coming from a guy who learned the classics through comics at my grandparents. "1000 leagues under the sea" and "Ivanhoe" were in tatters while the boys own annual were like new. "Tintin" and "Asterix" always should have coverage.
