In North America, a continent populated by more than a billion people, there are still only a few thousand among us living in sustainable structures. We ask you to consider the future of this progression. We ask you to question the quality of the status quo. Research suggests that if everyone consumed as much as Americans, we would need five planets the size of Earth to provide all of our resources.

Thanks to the efforts of many visionaries and strong-minded investors, development practices are becoming friendlier to the ecosystems we depend upon. In New York City, the billion-dollar Bank Tower is currently under construction on the corner of 42nd Street and Sixth Avenue. When completed, it will be the most sustainable skyscraper in the world. As developers and investors begin to understand this paradigm shift toward sustainability, many incredible stories of innovation emerge.

Portland, Oregon is home to more green building projects than anywhere else in the United States, in addition to having the most LEED accredited projects in the country. The demand for green buildings in Portland is profound and ever increasing. By providing dwellings that blend the power of structure with the promise of sustainability, we allow people to actualize their philosophies, and to make real their beliefs in everyday existence. This is our future. This is the nature of progress. It is for this reason that every sustainable building constructed in Portland is sold out before construction is complete, and re-sale values nearly double after completion. Sustainability practices are empowering and profitable for the investors and tenants alike, for the community and world at large.

Long awaited is the discovery of this historical gem and seed of future potential. The Jumptown building. Its story is monumental. In its’ early days it was known as The Dude Ranch- the hottest “black-and-tan” supper club west of the Mississippi, where jazz greats like Louie Armstrong and Lady Day played. It was commonly referred to as “ the house that bop built,” and it’s walls held the pulse that moved America.

Musicians riding the rail from the East Coast came to Portland, where a very supportive community awaited. Many African Americans came to Portland to build ships along the Willamette River and settled in Northeast Portland. Musicians enjoyed staying in Portland for long periods of time and Portland enjoyed having them. During a time when racism was the face of America, the jazz club was a place for people to come together. Music seeped through the skin, into the hearts and minds of the clubs’ patrons.

After World War II, troops returned home in celebration. The Dude Ranch was at a fever pitch. In the midst of a Billie Holiday show, the city shut the club down naming it a “public nuisance”. A year later the club re-opened under new management and it was roaring once again. It filled a deep need in the people to congregate, to enjoy. With all its heart and soul, joy and sadness, the music brought people together as human beings.

The Multiwayz team crafted a pro-forma incorporating sustainability. We have created plans for a seminal mixed-use space, which will facilitate a diversity of individuals and non-profit organizations to become empowered in their own community-building. It is a model for a successful green community and historical restorative project honoring the building’s rich legacy, as well as the environmental sensitivity the community stands behind.

Multiwayz has established a contract with Ken Yeang, one of the world’s prominent green architects. He will work with Portland architects John Echlin and John Smith from SERA. Mr. Yeang is full of passion and inspiration for this project, and is looking forward to collaborating with the City of Portland.

Multiwayz, L.L.C. is committed to restoring the Jumptown building and to creating a mixed-use sustainable green building with global values. We are a visionary company which foster a dream of future greatness. This will be shared among our diverse community through increased awareness. We act as an international bridge in the most innovative practices, setting standards with a unique sensitivity and creative force that will fuel and inspire the future of development. We pride ourselves on our deep level of commitment and responsibility, which stand at the forefront of our continual success. The Multiwayz team is capable of moving mountains, indeed even planting seeds in the process. This project will harness the energy of a diverse community, while honoring a rich legacy and changing the future through eco-development. Let what we create become a legacy of honor, something our descendendants will aspire to sustain for generations. The future is now.
